Choreography workshop with Ann Papoulis
Ljubljana, November 7 – 15, 2025
This year we are once again accepting applications for a choreography workshop, open to everyone interested in exploring how to shape movement in time and space. We will explore answers to these questions:
Inner Resources
— How can I consciously use my physical energies and my imaginative energies to nourish my choreographic process?
Outer Resources
— How can I find connections between my inner world and energies circulating in the world around me, in order to deepen the power of the movements I create?
Meaning
— How can my personal passions and ideas feed my choreography?
Starting Point
— What are the different starting points I can use for beginning a Dance?
You will learn an imaginative map that serves as a guide for your choreographic explorations, both during the workshop and afterwards. You will have the opportunity for individual creation, group work and an exchange of experiences with the other participants.
No prior choreographic knowledge is required – everyone interested in dance as a creative practice and form of personal expression is warmly welcome.
The workshop is suitable for dancers, choreographers, performers, film and theatre directors, actors, musicians, dramaturgs and anyone interested in working with movement material. The results of the workshop will be presented at the ŽIVA 2025 dance creativity festival, 15.11. at the Španski borci Cultural Centre.
The workshop will include a lecture by Ann Papoulis on the choreographic work of Merce Cunningham.

100 euro - early bird (until 1.11.2025);

Ann Papoulis is a visual and performing artist and an Imagination Activator. At the age of 23, she began teaching at the Cunningham Studio in Manhattan and has taught technique and imagination workshops for dance and theater companies and schools across Europe and the USA, including Opéra de Lyon, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Angelin Preljocaj, Maguy Marin, and Jean-Claude Gallotta.
Her multimedia work was most recently presented at Musée Blanche Hoschedé-Monet in Vernon, France. It included photography, paintings, abstract films (cinematic choreography) and dance. Her performances include a physical opera she directed, composed, and choreographed on commission from the Slovenian National House of Opera and Ballet Theatre in Ljubljana and TV Slovenia.
